How to Calculate Sales Tax
Enter the price before tax and the percentage rate you want to apply. Divide the rate by 100, multiply it by the price, then add the tax to the price.
Sales tax = Price × (Tax rate ÷ 100)
Total price = Price + Sales tax
Example: $80 at an 8.5% Tax Rate
Sales tax: $80 × 0.085 = $6.80
Total price: $80 + $6.80 = $86.80
The estimated tax is $6.80, and the total is $86.80. The 8.5% rate is an example.
